Guyana’s Hinterland-the Rupununi Savannahs
The Rupununi is a vast are of dry grassland with sparse trees, termites mounds and wooded hills in the Southwest of the country. The savannah is divided into the North and South Rupununi by the Kanuku Mountains and scattered with occasional Amerindian villages and a few large cattle ranches. Every year, during the rainy season you can see hundreds of Heron, Egret Anhinga, Ibis and other avian fauna fishing the flooded the savannahs.

Rupununi is an area rich in wildlife, particularly rare and endangered species such as the Black Caiman , Giant Otter, Jaguar (South America’s largest cat ). Bird life is rich, particularly in the forest galleries, and the Kanuku Mountains provide a home for the Harpy Eagle, the world’s largest and fiercest Eagle.

Iwokrama International Centre for Rainforest Conservation and Development
Iwokrama International Centre for Rainforest Conservation and Development manages the nearly one million acre (371,000 hectares) Iwokrama Forest in central Guyana to show how tropical forests can be conserved and sustainably used to provide ecological, social and economic benefits to local, national and international communities. The Iwokrama Forest and the Rupununi Wetlands and savannahs offer visitors the opportunity for an exceptional natural and cultural experience set in a learning context.

Iwokrama Canopy Walkway
One hour drive from the Iwokrama Field Station is the 154 meters (505 ft) sate-of-the art Canopy Walkway which envelopes you in the jungle’s mid-level canopy from heights of upto 30 meters (98 ft.) Visits at dusk or dawn, offers the best chance to see birds like the Green Aracari, Scarlet Macaw, Guiana Toucanette or Channel-bill Toucan. Red Howler Monkeys may also be observed.

Brief stops at Mabura (Police Check Point); arrive Kurupukari (Essequibo River Crossing) 12.00 hrs; lunch; continue through Iwokrama Rainforest Reserve; arrive Canopy Walkway 14.00 hrs; tour of Canopy Walkway; depart 15.30 hrs; brief stops at Annai, Rock View Lodge (Oasis); arrive Lethem 18.00 hrs; dinner; overnight  

Day 2- Excitement
Breakfast 07.00 hrs; Immigration Lethem; departs 09.00 hrs across the Takutu River; arrives Bon Fim (Immigration); 09.30 hrs; arrive Boa Vista, Brazil11.00 hrs; sightseeing, shopping; lunch (Brazilian Cuisine) 12.00 hrs continue tour; depart Boa Vista 15.00 hrs; arrive Lethem 17.00 hrs; dinner; overnight  

Day 3- Interaction with Nature
Breakfast; depart for Kumu Falls; outdoor cooking; swimming; relaxing; depart Kumu 16.00 hrs; dinner; overnight/ experience a mixture of Guyanese & Brazilian night life(optional)

Day 4- Homecoming
Breakfast 07.00 hrs; depart Lethem 08.00 hrs; arrive Georgetown (Mikel Plaza) 19.00 hrs.

Nb. Tour could be customized to allow for return via air transport from Lethem.
